What a couple of fantastic days spent in Dundee working with the wonderful team of Gary Jamieson of V&A Dundee, Rodney Mountain ex nhs surgeon and Amanda Lowson, and film maker Alastair Moore both of Dundee Rep Theatre.
Last November Amanda and I were at a meeting and came up with an idea about football and schools. Scotland had just qualified for the world cup and I said " we can all kick a ball “ Amanda translated this into Dundonian. “We can aw kick a baa.’
Gary was working independently on a football theme with schools, heard about our idea and the project was created and he brought on Rodney.
Over 2 days we filmed about 200 primary school children in 5 schools saying 'we can all kick a ball' in Scots and their own language. I think we had about 30 different languages spoken including our home nations ones.
Gary had worked with young adults who were still at school, to design a scarf and bandana which all the young children wore when getting filmed.
The plan is to make a 30 sec to a 1 min video of these children and launch it in June as part of the festival of Play on the 11th June.
I would love the video to be shown before each Scotland match.
